Publishing Instructions

Microsoft Frontpage allows you to publish and transfer a whole site or individual pages that you create to your web site. We currently have both FrontPage 97 and 98 extensions installed. Follow the instructions below to publish correctly. (The following instructions are based on FrontPage98)

NOTE: create a temporary home page with Frontpage Editor before attempting to publish. Name your home page "index.htm" or "index.html" or "default.htm" or default.html".

The following instructions will guide you in logging on to your server "LIVE" What this means is that anything that you create or edit and then click save will automatically be updated. No FTPing involved and no problems with FrontPage forms, counters, and framesets. This is why we suggest you do log on "LIVE"

In the "Getting Started with Microsoft Frontpage" dialogue box, choose "Open Existing Frontpage Web"; or under "File", choose "Open Frontpage Web". Click on "More Webs"

Under "Web Server or File Location", enter your domain name as follow: "www.yourdomainname.com" (or .org, .net, .edu). If you are a new customer, your domain name may not have propagated through the Internet yet (this can take up to a week or so). Instead, use the IP address that was provided to you (i.e. 207.213.37.xxx).

Click on "List Webs"
When the "<Root Web>" shows up in the "Frontpage Webs" box
Click OK.
A "Name and Password Required" dialogue box will appear.

Under Username: Type the "username" that was provided to you through e-mail. (First 8 letters of domain)
Under Password: Type the "password" that was provided to you through e-mail or that you choose when signing up.
Click "OK"

You should now be logged-in to your site. The following are instructions on how to publish or transfer your pages to the server. If you have a website that is currently residing on your local drive and need it to be uploaded into FrontPage, please follow these steps:
Within the FrontPage Explorer, select 'File' and 'Import' (you will see this)

It is suggested that you select the 'Add Folder' option and import the complete folder from which your files reside on your local drive. This will ensure that you get all the correct files needed to complete your website properly.
After this has been selected you will located the folder on you local drive and select it. You will see all the files and folders selected show up in the screen.
Click on 'OK'
This will initialize the import of the files (This is like FTPing to your site, but this is the only time you will have to do this in regards to FrontPage)
When the Import session is completed, you will see the file in the FrontPage Explorer. You will want to open up this folder and drag and drop all of its contents into the root directory.

Important Notes

1. During some transfers of domains, shared borders and navigation links do get disturbed. We would like to suggest that you please check to make sure that your navigation is completely set-up. Below is an example of the navigation area within the FrontPage Explorer.

2. To re-add the shared borders to the whole website in one step, follow these instructions:
a. Within the FrontPage Explorer, click on "Tools"
b. Select 'Shared Borders' (You will see this pop up)

c. Select the borders you wish to use throughout the website.
d. And click 'OK'

Note: You can specifically chose pages where you would like to place these borders as well in the desired pages within the FrontPage Editor.
